In 2010, CNT turns 100. A hundred years of struggle, peopled by
our comrades, men and women who have been building the libertarian
ideal with their lives and work. A century of triumphs as well as of
false moves, but one always filled with the firm belief that the
working class can create a different society through direct action,
solidarity and self management. A society for people and not for
money. This was the aspiration behind the birth of CNT 100 years ago
and it is still behind it today.
Despite the time gone by the ideas of anarcho-syndicalism and its
analysis of society and work hold true and although there are always
voices piping in to insist we don’t exist, nothing could be further
from the truth: we’re still here, working day in day out to transform
our principles into practice. Our union action shows that even with
the stumbling blocks constantly being piled in front of us there is
such a thing as unionism without the misrepresentation of union
elections, without paid union running boys, without state subsidies,
based on mutual aid and solidarity and not in lifeless
“representitivity.”
In December 1872, Cordoba hosted the International Anarchist
Congress in the building that is now the Góngora Theater. On
December 4 – 8, 2010, 130 years later, we will be holding CNT’s
10th Congress, back in Córdoba.
